THE CHILDREN MINISTRY
God has given parents the role of bringing up their children. One thing we are supposed to do as parents is making sure that we point our children to the right direction. This is clearly stated in Proverbs 22:6: ”Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” This is a biblical mandate to each one of us as parents.
Training up a child is basically pointing them to a specific direction. Psalms 127: 3-4 “Behold children are a heritage from the lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward like arrows in the hands of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth” Why are children equated to arrows? We ,as parents, are shooting our children, like arrows, into the future. How then do we know that we are shooting off our children in the right direction? There is a direction
that God wants your child to go and there is no option about this because this is the right direction. Here is God’s specific direction for all children:
- Obedience: Every child should obey Him. When a child truly understands his/her mistake and repents, he/she can be saved. This shows humility.
2. Believe: This means to trust in, rely on and cling to Jesus. By believing in Jesus Christ, He promises us that He will never leave nor forsake us. Best advice for parents is to teach your child the Word of God.
3. Follow Jesus – Children can follow Jesus by obeying Him. By obeying Him means obeying His word Not quitting – Teach your child to follow through their tasks. When they make a commitment, they should complete the task no matter the challenges they might go through.
4. Have a living relationship with God – This will help them love God, people and respect authority starting with the house help, teachers, coaches and others in their lives. Remember parenting is a task and you should think in a long-term basis. What you do with your child at the ages of one, two three… will be seen at the teenage period. If you point them to God’s direction early enough, this will be a good investment in the long run. Remember the main goal of parenting is to honor God with your children.
